VANDERBIJLPARK. – A 58-year-old suspect, believed to be a member of the AWB, was arrested by the K9 Unit and the Flying Squad on Wednesday for possession of 12 unlicensed firearms, live ammunition and traditional weapons consisting of pangas, axes and knives.
The suspect rented a wooden house with his wife just outside Vanderbijlpark CBD.
The quick response by the police and an intensive search lead to the illegal weapon find.

The guns were found in the bedroom, hidden between division boards.Regional General Zodwa Molefe was called to the scene and was surprised by the huge amount of weapons. Among the find were police bullet-proof vests.
The suspect is believed to be a member of the AWB. Police confiscated a notebook filled with codes that would have been given to his son, should anything happen to him.
The suspect’s wife seemed placid about her husband’s arrest while their two children were in tears. When police probed him about the illegal weapons, he claimed he was a carpenter who was paid in weapons, not money.

He was charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. This case also led to another arrest.
On Thursday, the Flying Squad Police joined forces with the Organised Crime Unit and K9 Unit. A 40-year-old man believed to be working with the first suspect was arrested.He lives in a mansion near Stonehaven. He gave up the hiding place where he kept the weapons after one of the K9 Unit dogs kept on barking at a wall. The wall turned out to be a hidden cupboard full of illegal guns.Both suspects will appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms.
