ANC must be led by a woman: ANCWL

SHARPEVILLE. – The time everyone has been waiting for to be led by a female president of the ANC has arrived. This was revealed by Sedibeng ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) over the weekend.
The regional ANCWL has joined the chorus in part of the country that demands a female president in the year 2018:
“We have since at least 2007 insisted that we are more than ready to be led by a woman,” said Mamokete Radebe, regional head of Political Education:
“There’s no better time for all ANC women to stand up and be counted.
“We are ready, Jacob Zuma was the last male President to rule the country. It will never happen again,” she said.
Radebe was speaking at a function of the ANCWL and ANC Youth League attended by hundreds of female ANC members in the Sharpeville Community Hall.
However, no one from the ANCWL wanted to burn their fingers by going as far as naming the next President:
“We have put the name on ice for now,” they said. Nkapu Ranake, regional secretary for ANCWL said there must be change.
When asked should it happen that the national executive committee of the ANC decide otherwise, she said in the organisation there are processes: “It’s obvious we will have to rally behind any person elected by the NEC of the ANC, said Nkapu.
Nelly Mokele head of the election task team, did not want to be left out. She strongly supports statements by other women:
“We love our organisation and we want to see it moving forward.”
The party has done badly in the local government elections. Some sections blame the poor results on the poor turn-out of voters while others blame the National Executive Committee for failing to listen to the mandate of the majority.
