The two suspects aged 28 and 39 were nabbed during a Crime Intelligence led by the Gauteng Hawks’ Organized Crime Unit, SAPS and Ekurhuleni Metro Police Mounted and Rapid Response Units.
It is alleged that the duo had been on the police radar for some time and on Tuesday the team pounced on them whilst busy cooking drugs inside a well-secured house on Dunlin Road, near Kempton Park.
Almost R1.5 million worth of CAT was confiscated including the chemicals that were being used to manufacture the drugs. The suspects will appear at the Kempton Park Magistrate Court on Wednesday for manufacturing and dealing in drugs.
Meanwhile, the Hawks team at the OR Tambo International Airport recovered drugs worth R1 million on Monday. The team received information regarding unattended luggage which arrived on a flight from Nigeria SA061 on Monday morning.
Upon searching the luggage, members recovered ephedrine weighing 20kg worth an estimated R1 million.
No arrests have been made as yet, the investigation continues.
Lieutenant General Ntlemeza warned that the Hawks will not rest nor hesitate to arrest anyone who is found to be dealing, manufacturing and or distribution of drugs.
“We were in Kempton Park as part of operation Expose and the community is responding by providing information. The future of this country depends on the collaboration between ourselves and our communities. To the drug peddlers, your days are numbered, we are coming, you can run but you cannot hide. We mean business and no criminal will stop us from cleaning our country from this heartless syndicates,” he concluded.
