Paramedics are on the scene of yet another school bus that overturned in Durban. It is understood that approximately 30 to 50 school kids have been injured when their school bus overturned on the N2 northbound in Amanzimtoti. Paramedics from ER24 and several other services are currently on the scene triaging the patients. At this stage it appears that majority of the children, believed to be between seven and fourteen years old, sustained minor to moderate injuries. No serious injuries or fatalities have been reported. The cause of the incident is not yet known. More information to follow as it becomes available.

[Update 2 at 19:49]

Paramedics transported 52 children and eight adults from the scene to various hospital. At least two sustained serious injuries. 25 ambulances, 10 rapid response vehicles and at least 60 medics assisted on the scene.

The local fire department and rescue services had to use specialized equipment to lift the bus to ensure no one was trapped underneath the wreckage. The overturned bus was found lying on the side of the highway. Paramedics found majority of the injured children outside the bus. It is believed that they helped each other out of the overturned wreckage. Local authorities are on the scene and will conduct an investigation into the exact cause of the incident. (Werner Vermaak – ER24 Spokesperson)
