Residents urged to tighten security

Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says, " We are pleading with our community members to take serious security measures." VEREENIGING.- Residents of Three Rivers, Sonlandpark and Arcon Park are urged to beef up security on their premises. This comes after an escalation in house-break-ins and motor vehicle theft in the areas.

Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says, ” We are pleading with our community members to take serious security measures.” Funda also warns about common robbery usually occuring in the Vereeniging CBD.  “Our police members are doing patrols in plain clothes, as a result the culprits are being arrested.” He adds.

In other cases, Funda states that Vereeniging Police managed to arrest a total of 32 people for various crimes last week.

“Four people were arrested for shoplifting, eleven for possession of drugs, three for assault gbh, three for being undocumented, one for common robbery, two for drunken driving, two for theft, three for possession of suspected stolen property (motor vehicle), one for business break-in,one for use of motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, one for attempted theft of motor vehicle and one for murder.”

Funda concludes, adding that all the arrested persons will appear in Vereeniging magistrate.
