Man sentenced to life in prison for raping a 10-year-old girl
Potchefstroom: The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed the life term sentence that was handed to a 40-year-old rape accused by Mogwase Regional Court on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.

The sentence follows the apprehension and trial of the accused who was arrested for the rape of a 10-year-old minor on 28 March 2015. It was reported at the time of the incident, on March 28, 2015, that the minor was on her way home from her aunt’s home when she met with the accused.
The latter asked the minor to accompany him and the minor refused, but the accused grabbed and took her to a nearby field where she was raped. The minor lost consciousness during the ordeal. She realised after gaining consciousness that she was raped and reported the matter to her mother who then informed the police.
The North West Provincial Commissioner indicated that the police will continue to work hard to ensure that merciless criminals get lengthy sentences.
