Weekend crime and successes – Vanderbijlpark

MEDIA STATEMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE STATION COMMANDER, BRIGADIER NIKIWE HOAEANE

A well informed and empowered community is what we, as Vanderbijlpark SAPS, strive towards, as we keep fighting the good fight against crime.  Such a well informed community are more alert and detour criminals.  The following weekend crime and crime trends were reported.

CRIME IN GENERAL

Our crime is showing a decrease compared to last year this time February, murder, robbery aggravating and common robbery has increased.

Housebreaking cases and business breaking

House breaking has decreased but it has come to our attention that garages are being broken into in the premises.  Affected areas are CE4, CW2, SE1, SW2 and SW5.  Items such as tools were stolen plasma TV’s, play station, games and jewellery.

Business breaking\ business robbery

No business breaking or business robbery incident reported over this weekend, this shows that the suspects that were arrested for the business robbery in the Vaal Mall and in Faraday has made a big impact on our business robberies and business break in.

Common robbery

Happened in Bophelong Ext.6 where the victim was attacked by the girlfriend and the ex- boyfriend of the girlfriend they robbed the victim his cash. The 2nd incident happened in Ext.10 victim was overpowered by a group of suspects who assaulted him with a bottle undressed the victim his jean, Lacoste tekkies and cell phone and fled with the victims belongings.

RWF

Happened in Bophelong Ext.5 the victim was sitting outside his shack when he was attacked by two unknown suspects who threw a brick at him chased him and robbed him his cash.  Suspects were arrested the same day by the police.

Murder

A 28 year old male was stabbed to death by an unknown suspect in Bophelong outside the tavern on Saturday.  The suspect is still at large, Vanderbijlpark SAPS is looking for eye witnesses and community assistance in this incident.

Theft of motor vehicle 

Hyundai bakkie was stolen in the CBD, BMW stolen in CE2 and a VW Jetta stolen in CW3.

Theft from motor vehicle

Mercedes Benz skating was stolen from the vehicle in the CBD, tyres, computer box stolen at the workshop in NW7 and the spare wheel was stolen in SW5.

SUCCESSES

The Vanderbijlpark SAPS managed to arrest a total of 15 people over the weekend for various crimes.   2 illegal shebeen closed, 1 person arrested for driving under the influence and 0 person arrested for drugs.
