Get ready for the Inland Championship at Midvaal
Saturday June 10 will see the next round of the inland championship for regional circuit racing which will be held at the Midvaal Raceway. The high speed circuit always produces action-filled racing and the facility creates a festive atmosphere with the pits open to the public and always some interesting displays and stalls.

Guaranteed to deliver the action will be the liqui moly inex legends who are the only category to squeeze three cars wide into almost every corner and have more lead changes than laps. Running with Yamaha motorcycle engines their acceleration and maneuverability allow for very close racing. Current championship leader Arno Stadler had an impressive run of victories when last at Midvaal but Willie Erasmus and the Young Alton Bouw are clos behind him. With three races on the day a lot can happen. For the Yokohama modified production car class it is a question of; will it be the Hondas or will it be the Golfs ? This class is filled with front wheel drive cars from different brands all challenging for the honours, victories having gone to different brands and drivers at almost every event. The top VW challengers will be George Economedes, Paul Saayman, Paul van Niekerk and Adrian Dalton with the Hondas driven by Keegan Pottas, Dirk Lawrence, Jeff Langeveldt and Brandon Hall who has also just recently turbo charged his car. Class B is filled with more VWs and should see a good race between Jordan mc Gregor who has really shown he has the talent to take wins against the likes of Wayne Lebotsky and other stalwarts in the class . Team EV dynamics has the leading class C cars with Shane Kroon and Morne Fullard but there could be some there also as Midvaal always presents a challenge to the drivers.
The Bridgestone BMW Car Club Race series is a crowd favourite with most types of BMWs out on track , the front of the pack normally with the turbo charged cars but often a normally aspirated car takes the challenge to them over full race distance as the heat delivers a challenge to the turbo cars . Jan Evestein is currently leading the championship with his class D car but he is overseas for this event so the lead can go to any number of drivers. Front runners in the race have also seen many challengers through the year with names like Lorenzo Guilterri, Dino and Julian Familiaris, Stef Martinelli and the Loreiu brothers, Rick and Paulo, so a gambler has no safe money here when predicting a winner. Class C sees the young Willie Erasmus in the speed and sound entry who will be challenged by the father and son team of Mike and Shane Grobler. Midvaal Historics is one of the categories that has shown good growth over the past two years as these competitors who have historic race cars want to just come out and race on the track and enjoy the good social atmosphere of the inland championship when off the track. These cars bring back memories for most people as the old Minis race the Datsuns and the Ford Escorts, with many closely contested battles and all with a story to tell of the days gone by.
Single seater race fans will be in for a real treat as the historic single seaters are also on the track for the day with some very rare and valuable cars competing . The old gentleman of the sport do not hold back even though the value of some of the cars go into the millions as these cars have become so rare and sought after by overseas buyers. Also competing on the day will be the formula monoposto which includes all single seater cars from motorcycle powered formula M cars, formula Vees, Fords and many others that race together and have interesting races on track .
The big boss auto supersaloons brings a group of race cars that normally produce the fastest lap times of the day, V8’s , rotaries and turbos that will thunder around the track and disturb any peace and quiet. The field has seen wins this year from young drivers like Devin Robertson in the liqui moly corvette, Amos Cockeram junior in the Hoosier tyres Lumina , Lonika Maartens in the royal purple Lumina and challenged by Benjamin Morgenrood showing the young local talent. The field also has race legends that come and race here to still keep their skills sharp, such as Willie Hepburn also racing in the category. The GT2 class is currently the class that can be expected to deliver good action as it encompasses the turbo charged space frame cars which are getting incredibly fast. Drivers like Marius Jacobs, JP Nortjie, JP Bolhman will be challenged by the rotary powered cars of Jody Vianna, Brendon Martins, Antonie Marx and Richard Cooley. The GT4 and GT5 field have very close racing as the turbo charged monoque cars challenge the normally aspirated space frame cars with recent good results coming from Riaan Draper, Joanne Cockeram and Paul Saayman. This class will also be there to deliver on the action .
For entry to the track tickets will be R 50.00 for adults and children under 12 are free. Racing will start from 10 am.
