VANDERBIJLPARK. – Is the Information Centre on the circle in Vanderbijlpark’s CBD still in use? Are there still municipal officials working there or is it closed? These are some of the questions regularly asked by the public regarding this building. Many Vaalweekblad reporters reported in the past year that they see homeless people using it as sleeping space.
According to Mr Stanley Gaba, Acting Manager: Communications of Emfuleni Local Municipality, the Tourism Office is still in operation and is manned daily by two council officials. “It could be possible that the office will be closed on short intervals due to meetings and other duties the two officials might have to attend to simultaneously,” Mr Gaba told Vaalweekblad.
“It should be noted that the issue of vandals is a problem around many towns. It does not affect only the Information Office, but the police station, Home Affairs and many other buildings in and around the CBD. Although the super-bylaw department removes them, they still come back from time to time,” Gaba said.
