The Vereeniging-based Highveld Horse Care Unit recently received R154 962.86 from the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet programme on behalf of Gauteng shoppers during the latest fundraising period.
Highveld Horse Care Unit specialises in ensuring the proper care of working horses and donkeys through programmes to educate equine owners and provide the animals with medical care.
The organisation also inspects and monitors the welfare of working horses and donkeys, while providing on-site care for those which have either been confiscated due to cruelty or surrendered as unwanted.
Many thousands of Gauteng shoppers are amongst the 1.2 million supporters nationwide who have played their part in raising a total of R500 million for causes close to their hearts over the last two decades through the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet community loyalty programme. Popular causes amongst supporters include national organisations such as the MyPlanet Rhino Fund, the South African Guide-Dog Association for the Blind and Operation Smile, while locally-based charities are also high on supporters’ agendas.
