VANDERBIJLPARK. – “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”, a phrase originated by Peter Drucker – an Austrian-born American management consultant, is an absolute reality. In fact, any company disconnecting the two are putting their success at risk.
For Abe Thebyane, Group Executive: Human Resources at the Nedbank Group, the direct correlation between a healthy, productive culture and a company’s bottom line is a given. The challenge however is that the majority of companies spend little time thinking, let alone doing anything about it, even when they are spending lots of time thinking about their business strategy. The concepts of business strategies and sustainability are but two of the topics that will feature during the NWU Vaal Leadership Summit on August 12.
At the summit some of South Africa’s most brilliant business minds, strategists and thought leaders, such as Thebyane, will share their insights into business, the economy and management with industry front-runners and executives.
Thebyane has acquired almost thirty years of extensive Human Resources and overall business experience in various senior and executive positions, in several large corporations and across a range of industries. Some of his most notable leadership positions include Executive Head: HR, at Anglo Platinum Limited and Executive Director: HR at ISCOR LTD.
Through his experience in these executive positions as well as other HR and consulting positions, Abe has built up a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the HR sphere. Some of Abe’s most significant knowledge is in HR Strategy, Skills Development, Employee Relations, Employee Diversity, Talent Management, Workforce Planning and Change Management.
He matriculated from Motswedi High School in 1979 and has a B.Admin degree from the University of the North, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (HR) from Wits Business School and a MBA from De Montfort University. He joined the Nedbank Group in February 2011 as Group Executive: Human Resources.
