ORANGE FARM. – A man of the cloth and his wife appeared in the Magistrates Court on charges of fraud on Friday.
A case of fraud was lodged by the Orange Farms Police on Wednesday, which led to the arrest of the Extension 9 priest and his wife on Wednesday.
Apparently the priest and his wife went to a popular filling station in Orange Farm where they paid with a fake R200 note. The petrol attendant notified the couple of the fake note, of which they denied knowledge. According to filling station management during the money check-up, shortages led them to look at CCV footage and it was then established that the couple were indeed behind the fake note.
The filling station management lodged a case with Police and the priest and his wife were brought to book. Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Motsiri says Police deployed members to investigate the case and a warrant to search the house of the couple was executed:
“We raided the house of the priest and his wife and a safe containing counterfeit one-hundred-rand and two hundred rand notes were recovered. Both people were detained immediately.”
