VANDERBIJLPARK. – There is something fun to look forward to at the end of the month: Stonehaven on Vaal’s popular annual Spring Beer Festival. It is on Saturday August 29 from midday to midnight.
The first 500 guests of the day will be spoiled. They will receive large, limited edition cardboard posters of the 2015 Rugby World Cup line-up, where they can also fill in the actual scores on the games and keep them as mementos.
They will also be treated to complimentary tastings of Brutal Fruit’s new Litchi Ginko flavour – perfect for a hot, early spring day.
A fun and novel Tuk Tuk will be driving around on the lawn, giving out complimentary samples of the new Chilled Green Apple version of Flying Fish.
The setting right on the banks of the Vaal River can’t get much better with lots of tables to sit around while you enjoy a good line-up of entertainment from Gangs of Ballet, the Graeme Watkins Project, Arno Carstens, Garth Taylor and Dixie Hillbillies, along with your favourite brew. Later on, DJ Warren will entertain those that want to party the night away.
Just for that special day SAB Breweries will have three speciality draught beers on tap, never before available in the Vaal and only on limited production in SA.
The batch was brewed and specially crafted by No 3 Fransen Street Brewery. This brewery is designed with speciality beer in mind. So Vaalies will be able to indulge in tastings of Red Ale, which is of Irish origin and has a rich candy, caramel malt flavour with slight roasted notes.
There is also Krystal Weiss, a classic wheat beer, light to medium gold colour, and Cream Ale, with lactose and toffee flavours. It is a mild and refreshing beer with a medium finish.
Tastings and full glasses of these beers will be available. Besides these new beer treats, there will also be lots of fun: well-priced meals from stalls selling biltong, candy and ice cream.
Lots of competitions will run throughout the day, including complimentary rides on the bucking bull – where the top bull rider (longest number of minutes able to hold on) will receive a great prize at the end of the day. There will also be a beer tasting competition – great prizes by SAB are on the cards. There will also be prizes for the best-dressed in rugby gear. This is a nice teaser and build-up to the upcoming Rugby World Cup next month, where Stonehaven will hold a Rugby Fan Park. There will also be loads of complimentary entertainment for the children, including many inflatables for them to have fun on. There will be a rocket and the foam pond (children, should bring bathing costumes and J-Boards). More activities available include face-painting, fishing for prizes, dough play, painting fun, kiddies competitions and more! The speed-boat and cruiser will be going out for boat trips down Millionaires Mile, too.
This is a perfect day out for the family. Entrance is R60 for adults and R20 for children 16 and under. Children under the age of four can go in for free. For more information www.springbeerfestival.co.za, info@stonehaven.co.za, www.facebook.com/StonehavenonVaal or (016) 982-2951/2Gangs of Ballet
