VANDERBIJLPARK. – The women in blue of the Vanderbijlpark SAPS with the help of the men in blue embarked on celebrating Women’s Month in style. They started by having a career exhibition in the Vaal Gate Centre where they focused on sharing with the young people of Vanderbijlpark what careers the SAPS offers to the young ones.  The main focus was on recruits that will be coming soon. They went to the Bophelong and Driehoek clinics to address crimes affecting women such as rape, domestic violence and women committing various crimes.

They shared ideas on how important it is to report these crimes and not to keep silent about crimes committed against them.  They also shared ideas on how to start improving life by using work like knitting and bead craft, to put food on the table. An old saying is ‘You strike a woman you strike a rock. They also motivated the youth to go out, recruit and address the youth standing on the corners of Bophelong streets, urging them  to refrain from using drugs and nyaope as they are the leaders of tomorrow. The last event is when we had a dialogue with the women of all 8 N. G. churches in Vanderbijlpark, who came to visit us and wanted to  know how to deal with the prostitution of young women at Becquerrel Street in Vanderbijlpark, drug trafficking and the stress of being police officials when we see that our work calls for a lot of courage and strength.  A central concern was also the police killings reported in the media. A heartfelt thanks go to all the high schools that participated by attending the career exhibition, the Bophelong youth desk that participated in interacting with recruits and which  addressed the youth about using drugs.  A big thank you goes to the N.G. Kerk ladies for spending the day with us and appreciating the good work the police are doing in the community of Vanderbijlpark and Bophelong. Would also like to take this opportunity to thank the media for publishing the date for the auction that was held here in Vanderbijlpark on August 20 and for putting it on the air waves, not forgetting the meeting of the liquor board forum meeting that were also held on August 26 at North West University. That meeting was a big success. – Sgt. Gertrude Makhale, Communication Officer, Vanderbijlpark SAPS.
