Chinese nationals arrested with Rhino horn and drugs

VEREENIGING. – On Friday 21 December 2018 members of Sedibeng K9 together with Ekurhuleni K9 and the Hawks (DPCI) followed up information on Chinese nationals who runs a suspected drug lab. Members of Ekurhuleni K9 Sgt Makgwatela and Cst Seshoka followed a white VW Transporter with their unmarked police vehicle and Cst Stemele of Sedibeng K9 assisted them with his marked police vehicle to pull the suspected vehicle over. While searching the vehicle they found 5 x 25 litre containers containing chemicals which is used to manufacture drugs. Further investigation led them to a house in sprincol Vereeniging. Another Chinese national was found there and also gas bottles which is used to cook the drugs as well as a bag of Chrystal Meth.
Further investigation led them to Honeydew area where the members recovered seven (07) packs of Crystal Meth, two (02) Elephant tusks and two (02) rhino horns. Investigations led the members further to Soshanguve where the other drug manufacturing equipment was seized.
Due to the members persistence in following the information which took them all over Gauteng paid off and items with an estimated street value of +/- 8 Million rand was recovered. Three Chinese nationals was arrested and will face charges under the endangered species act and of possession of drugs.
The SAPS appeals to the community to be our eyes and ears and report suspicious activity to 10111 or the nearest police station. Be vigilant to strong chemical smells and people offloading lots of bags and chemical containers.
