SASOLBURG. – With mega prize money up for grabs the teams will come out with all guns blazing at the Vaal Campus of the North West University’s second annual Basketball Tournament.
The tournament is proudly supported by the Rejuvenation Trust and is a cornerstone of basketball development at grass root level.
The Harry Gwala Multipurpose Sport Complex in Sasolburg will be swarming with activity this weekend with the tournament kicking off on Friday at 17:00.
The cream of the crop will be crowned on Sunday. The senior winning team will receive R10 000 for their efforts and the runner-up will get R5 000.
The u/18 champions will walk off with R5 000 and the runner-up will bank R2 000. Last year the Vaal University of Technolgy (VUT) Wildcats walked off with the spoils. The Wild Cats thrashed the Randburg Rhinos by 55-37.
In the ladies final VUT defeated the Steelers 49-37. The u/19 men’s final was a humdinger with the Steelers snatching victory from the jaws of defeat to beat the Alex Cavs 43-42.
The big talking point is whether VUT will be able to bag another double this year.
