VANDERBIJLPARK.- Four players of NWU Vaal FC have been selected to represent University Sports South Africa (USSA) Football at the World Student Games in Napoli, Italy from 3-14 July.
The players are: Tebogo Galane (Kaizer Chiefs), Mduduzi Sithole, Kavendree Makhene and Siyabulela Mosiea. All of them are registered students and SAFA Sedibeng SAB League players representing NWU Vaal.
To date, USSA Football has produced players such as Siyabonga Nhlapo (former VUT Student now Supersport), Thabo Rakgale (NWU Mafikeng now Chippa United), Lehlohonolo Majoro (UJ now Bid Wits), Mlungisi Mbunjane (UJ now Highlands Park) and the likes of Bushy Moloi (TUT now assistant coach Baroka), Floyd Mbele (TUT now head of administration at Orlando Pirates).
Speaking to Vaalweekblad, NWU Vaal Football Manager Thomas Thema said that this is a great achievement not only for the players but also for the university. Thema said the players will depart on June 25.
“As NWU Vaal we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the players. We wish them the best of luck to make us proud. This is an opportunity for them to launch their football careers at the highest level. I must also mention that the very same players were competing in the Safa Sedibeng SAB League. This shows that the league has quality players when players from their ranks are selected to compete in one of the top football competitions in the world,” said Thema.
