One killed, five injured in a two-vehicle collision

MEYERTON. – One person was killed and five others were injured following a two-vehicle collision on the R59 close to the Pierneef offramp between Meyerton and Vereeniging this afternoon.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene at approximately 14:00, they found most of the patients out of the vehicles. One of the vehicles, a bakkie, had rolled.

One woman was found with fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. Another woman was found with serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital by a medical helicopter at the scene.

A young boy was also found to have sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital with the ER24 Oneplan Medical Helicopter. Three others were found with minor to moderate injuries. Two were transported to hospital with ER24 and the other patient declined transportation to hospital.

No injuries were reported from the second vehicle.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to our paramedics, but police were on the scene for further investigations.
