Grandma with a ‘zippy’ zest for life

VANDERBIJLPARK. – You can call her grandma, but you can never call her boring!
Last year Vaalweekblad introduced readers to then 76 year young grandma, Bernice Robberts, who at that stage of her life started to take drum lessons (unfortunately her teacher relocated to the Cape so she decided to move on to bass guitar).
“My whole family loves music but my dad was super talented. He played the string bass; ukulele; harmonica and saxophone. In fact he had his own jazz band way back in the 1930s,” says a proud Bernice.
Apart from her love for music she has a wide interest in all sorts of things, and sometimes to quite the surprise of friends and family.
Like for instance staying up late at night to watch boxing on TV and during her recent family trip to Canada she surprised them again!
On her trip to Toronto, Canada she had an absolute blast, the highlight being when she zip-lined over Niagara Falls.
“It was freaky seeing Buffalo, New York, a stone’s throw away from the Falls. That will simply have to be a trip for another day. Remember, you are never too old to tackle something new, why not venture out of your comfort zone, I’m 77 and I did,” says Bernice.
Bernice cites her biggest achievement as her children and grandchildren. Four of which live abroad.
She loves overseas travel and has visited approximately 20 different countries already, some more than once.
Until her next ‘extreme adventure’ Bernice will continue to make the best of everyday and living life to the fullest.
Her friends know she battles to stay serious, and is always ready with a joke. She has a memory like an elephant and never forgets a punch-line. Her dear friend, Pauline, is always trying a new hairstyle on her. Bernice never shies away from trying something new. Experimenting with hair and fashion has been the story of her life from a young age.
Never a dull moment with this grandma around!
