Cansa Relay for Life: 28 & 29 September
Teams camp out around the track overnight and enjoy entertainment, fun and camaraderie in a festive atmosphere

All Vaalies are invited to join in this year’s Cansa Relay For Life event to commemorate our friends and family who have fought against cancer. It takes place at North-West University’s Vaal Triangle Campus on September 28 and 29.
Cansa Relay For Life is part of an international movement that unites cancer survivors and the communities that care about them. It offers everyone in a community, both young and old, the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer and to honour those who have been touched by cancer. It is an opportunity for cancer survivors and their loved ones to show solidarity and fight against it together.
Cansa Relay For Life is an extremely fun, overnight team event, which is volunteer driven and community owned. At the Relay, teams of 10 to 15 friends, neighbours, families and co-workers commit to having at least one team member walking around the track at all times for 12 hours, because cancer neither slumbers nor sleeps. The Cansa Relay For Life event opens with a heart-warming Survivors’ Lap, honouring cancer survivors and their caregivers. After sun set, tribute is paid in a touching Luminaria Ceremony by lighting candles inside luminaria bags, which encircle the track.
These luminaria bags are dedicated to those who have lost their battle, to those who are still fighting and to those who have won their struggle against cancer.
Teams are encouraged to raise funds in support of the fight against cancer in the region where the Relay is being held.
Teams camp out around the track overnight and enjoy entertainment, fun and camaraderie in a festive atmosphere.
While supporting our dearest, a number of amazing artists will be there to support those taking part in the Cansa Relay Life Vaal Triangle 2019.
These artists include inspirational singer, Vernon Barnard, who brought tears to South Africans’ eyes during his debut on The Voice, Greunen Parker, who also competed in The Voice South Africa in 2019, Sean Miles, our local star who has won numerous singing competitions, and Serenade, an attractive male quartet who will motivate us with their melodies.
Last but not least, various NWU Vaal students from the River Choir will share their talents to help motivate participants. Other exciting activities include a non-stop 22 hour diving, Drag Queen Races and many more!
