Rand Water to consider Emfuleni Local Municipality’s Payment Proposal to settle outstanding debt
Emfuleni's water supply not to be restricted at this stage

Rand Water today said in a media release the water utility is considering a payment proposal by Emfuleni to settle its debt.
According to Rand Water they have received a payment proposal from the Emfuleni Local Municipality ((ELM) on Monday, 30 September 2019, in which ELM outlined a plan on how it would settle its debt due to Rand Water for water services rendered.
On the same day (Monday), ELM also made a R40,766,360.46 payment to Rand Water and undertook to make a further payment of R70,419,591.94 on Monday, 7 October 2019.
The arrear amount due by ELM to Rand Water is R489,986,191.66.
Rand Water says it will now consider ELM’s payment proposal and will also engage with the Municipality on its debt obligations. In doing so, Rand Water says it will not further reduce the supply of water to the Municipality. The watersupply to ELM will therefore remain as it has been in the past five months with no further restriction.
