An international day for People Living with Disabilities will be observed in December. This day is celebrated every year to empower persons with disabilities and to ensure inclusiveness and equality.
According to Vaal Mental Health, the day aims to increase public awareness and to bring about better understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities, as well as to celebrate their achievements and contributions.
“The estimated one billion people living with disabilities worldwide face many barriers in society. Empowerment involves investing in people so that they can become agents of change and can more readily embrace their civic responsibilities,” says a spokesperson for Vaal Mental Health.
This organisation, which is part of the Sedibeng Disability Forum, is planning a roadshow at the Johan Heyns Clinic in Vanderbijlpark on Friday, December 6, specifically for disabled persons in the local community.
The participants will include persons living with physical and psychosocial disabilities. The event will consist of an interesting program and lunch.
A local radio station and an artist living with bipolar challenges will also take part in the program. Vaal Mental Health requests the public and business community for donations to buy T-shirts and provide lunch and cooldrinks for an estimated 300 people who will attend the event.
