In an interview on eNCA MMC of Public Works Bheki Ntsele said the interruption to the water distribution was initially caused by a power outage and was later exacerbated by low reservoir levels.
He named a number of challenges facing the municipality including leakages, poor piping infrastructure, and sanitation problems.
Ntsele said the water would likely be restored by Thursday or Friday.
According to a statement issued by ELM the water shortages are due to a power failure in Helenasrus in Lantelande that has affected the water pumping processes at the Lanerand reservoir since midnight.
“The municipality is appealing with all of the affected communities and businesses to use water sparingly to avoid a prolonged water supply interruption.”
Residents say there’s been no communication or information about where to find water since then. Some of the affected areas are Sebokeng, Walkerville and parts of Evaton.
