Several people injured on first Friday of 2020

The first Friday of 2020 turned out the be accident prone in the Vaal with several people being injured in two separate accidents.

The first accident occurred in the morning in Vaalpark. Four people were left injured when a bakkie and motor vehicle collided at the President Swart and Opperman Road intersection.

ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene at 07:30 to find the bakkie and motor vehicle in the right-hand lane of the road. Medics found a man seated inside the motor vehicle with serious injuries. Three other patients, walking around on the scene, were treated for minor injuries.

Medics treated the serious injured man with pain-relief medication before they were all transported to Metsimaholo Provincial Hospital for further care. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

In the second incident later the day, three people were left injured in Vanderbijlpark, one of them seriously, when two bakkies and a motor vehicle collided at the R42 Barrage and Rossini Road intersection.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 13:10 to find the motor vehicle and a towing recovery bakkie in the intersection. A second bakkie was found lying on its side a few metres away.

On closer inspection, medics found two women still inside the overturned bakkie. Medics and Fire Services had to remove the windshield to free them. A third patient, a woman in her 30s, was found inside the towing vehicle. Medics assessed the patients and found that one woman was in a serious condition while the two others had sustained minor injuries.

The patients were treated for their injuries and the seriously injured woman was transported to Mediclinic Emfuleni Hospital for further care. The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
