Mystery over who shot a puppy

Trigger warning: The following content may upset sensitive readers. A puppy that was shot in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, allegedly by a man in uniform, can be saved but need to go for operations.

“Today we received an emergency call about a dog who was severely wounded after being shot,” a post on Bloemfontein’s Facebook page read.

According to Bloemfontein SPCA when they arrived at the house, the owner had already closed the wound on the foot and put a popsicle on his body where it was swollen.

“We talked to the owner and she said that a man in uniform had shot her dog. She was unable to remember his name. The owner still doesn’t know why he had shot her dog.

After we applied bandages to stop the bleeding and had made the dog comfortable, we rushed him to the veterinarian for treatment.”

It is alleged that it is not clear whether it was the police or a security company who shot Spike.

“We went to the nearest police station to investigate and talked to the station officer and detectives. No officer had registered that their weapon was fired today. There are multiple security companies in the area and we are doing everything to find the culprit. We are desperately trying to find the culprit,” Bloemfontein SPCA said on its Facebook page

The SPCA returned to the veterinarian but did not receive good news. The bullet caused severe injuries: broken bones, muscle injury and tendons. It appears that a lung was also damaged and that little Spike had lost a lot of blood. Spike is currently in a lot of pain. The good news is that Spike can be saved but needs to go for operations.

The SPCA desperately needs help to save Spike and has appealed to the public to help cover the costs of the operation.
