Health ministry retracts reports of a coronavirus case in the Free State

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that South Africa remains free from local transmission.

Following reports that Mpumalanga and Free State provinces were the latest to have confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that the coronavirus case in the Free State, has now tested negative.

The health ministry originally reported that the patient was the first local transmission of the disease. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that South Africa remains free from local transmission.

Speaking during a media briefing in Polokwane, on Thursday, Mkhize has apologised for the wrong statistics following an earlier reported case in the Free State, reducing the number of people infected in the country from 17 to 16.
