Local sensei: Who dares … wins!

SASOLBURG. - Local sensei Lenord le Hanie, well known in local martial arts circles wrote a piece: Who Dares ... Wins, and would like to share it with our readers.

With grid covering Gary’s mouth, he looks like a vicious ‘Jaws’, the “villian caracter” in two James Bond movies.

My aim for the short term was JAWS! During one of Jaws’ ‘blinders’, his main objective being to destroy me! He ferociously launched his punches, kicks and strikes towards my head and torso. Uncontrolled. His motto must have been, ‘No mercy, no favours’.

He kept charging after me, like an enraged bull, breathing violently through flared nostrils … he did not plan his next attack. Like a wounded Grizzly!

I shifted swiftly to the left… shuffled quickly, ready to unwind a rear right turning-kick, whilst slipping further backwards, as far as the arena had allowed me to do … retaliated with a left to his mid-section and a right cross to his left eye.

That unleashed his fury … and I had to deal with him! He spins around … drenched in sweat …
I had to ignore the excruciating pain and discomfort – I had to keep on fighting. I fought him tactical, rather than doing counter fighting. I kept moving for the remainder of the last two rounds, striking him with greater ease and accuracy with the timing of a Swizz-watch.

One of the combinations was a slow left punch, followed by a fake left turning-kick, only to move as quickly as possible to my right and dropping my left leg during recoil – in the recovery phase and striking with a right ‘ridge-hand’ to the side of the head.

Again, this worked! Not one of my former opponents studied me properly, nor did they come up with a better plan of their own. I fought orthodox and could figure them out – long before our fight was halfway.

From the outset, I decided to surprise him head-on… meeting him with slick hands, avoiding him with good feet work and counter-fighting where ‘aggression’ meets ‘assault’ … having spiced up my techniques with speed and brains over brawn – I won!
