The ‘I’ for ‘Independent’ has disappeared from IEC.

The Independent Electoral Commission no longer calls itself that,  but still travels by the abbreviation IEC. At the same time, the IEC refers to itself as ‘the electoral commission’. As the Americans say, “Go figure.”

Various efforts to find out why ‘I’ for Independent has been partially dropped have been fruitless. All that has been widely acknowledged by mainstream media is that the IEC has been rectifying what is calls a “credibility problem”.
