Five killed and police arrests close to 200 people for violent unrest around Tshwane (update)

TWO more bodies have been found following the unrest and continued looting at the Central City Shopping Mall in Mabopane, north of Tshwane in the early hours today.

TWO more bodies have been found following the unrest and continued looting at the Central City Shopping Mall in Mabopane, north of Tshwane in the early hours today. This brings to five the total number of bodies recovered since the start of the unrest in various areas in and around Tshwane on Sunday.  This includes the two bodies found in Mamelodi yesterday as well as another person was shot after a meeting in the Tshwane CBD and later died in hospital on Sunday.

Police found one body Central City mall while the other was found in the nearby houses. Of the latest incident of Mabopane, it is not clear at the moment how the second person died in Mabopane. Meanwhile, more than 150 people have been arrested as of Wednesday night until this morning. This brings the number of people arrested close to 200. They are charged with public violence, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of stolen property and malicious damage to property.  They will appear at different courts in due course.

The situation was and is still calm but tense in some of the areas. Pockets of looting occurred last night especially in the Tshwane North area.  Police are appealing for calm and are continuing to monitor the situation all over Tshwane.
