One killed in head-on collision

VANDERBIJLARK . – A 42-year-old man was killed and another critically injured early this morning after a taxi and bakkie collided head-on on the R42 in Vanderbijlpark.
ER24 Spokesperson russel Meiring says, “ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene and found that a taxi and bakkie had collided at apparent high speed.
“A crumpled taxi was found lying in the middle of the road while a bakkie, completely ripped open, was found lying on the side of the road.”

A 28-year-old man was found lying trapped inside his wrecked bakkie in a critical condition. Rescue services had to use specialised rescue equipment in an hour-long operation to free that patient.
“Once freed, paramedics treated the man and provided him with multiple advanced life support intervention. He was thereafter transported to Sebokeng Hospital for urgent treatment. The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.” Meiring concludes.
