PRETORIA: – During this past weekend two more people were arrested for their alleged involvement to break Radovan Krejcir out of the Zonderwater prison. A long-serving prison warder and a woman close to Radovan Krejcir.

In March this year, detectives uncovered an elaborate and possibly a deadly plot to break Krejcir out of prison, while busy with the investigation against Radovan Krejcir and several other accused.

This revelation led to the arrest of three people in April, including Krejcir, a Zonderwater Correctional Services Officer, Solly Metlae and Sandile Mdumbe.

On Friday, 22 July 2016 a senior prison official Martinus Johannes Hendrik Herbst (49) was arrested at the prison. The following day, Marissa Christopher (37), who is believed to be close to Krejcir went to visit him in prison and she was subsequently arrested. The latest two accused are alleged to have also formed part of the plot to help Krejcir escape.

Herbst and Christopher both appeared in the Kempton Park Regional Court on charges of defeating the ends of justice, corruption and conspiracy to aid a prisoner to escape from lawful custody. The matter was postponed to today, July 26, 2016, for a formal bail application where the State will be opposing bail.
