School pupil rescued in Drakensburg

On Sunday afternoon the  Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedics, Nsele ambulance service  and the KZN Emzemvelo game rangers set out on  a three-hour hike into the mountains at Giants Castle in the Drakensberg to treat a pupil that had fallen ill during a hiking session.

The rescue team met up with the school party and after the boy was stabilized, they made a decision to walk him out due to the falling light and weather conditions. Once at the base camp, the patient was placed in an ambulance and then transported to the hospital for the care that he required.
