VANDERBIJLPARK. – On Sunday morning 29 January at around 02:30 the Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a medical call in the Sebokeng area of Vanderbijlpark when he came across a side impact crash. Exact detail to the cause of the crash is still speculative and will form part of the South African Police investigation.
The paramedics stopped and found that accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles, consistent with that of a high impact collision was spread over a large area. After investigating it was found that the driver of the Mercedes escaped with no injuries, the four occupants from the red Nissan was still trapped in the wreckage. One tragically died before our arrival, one was critically injured, one sustained serious injuries, miraculously one escaped with minor injuries.
The fire brigade worked tirelessly for around an hour and a half to extricate the injured using the Jaws of Life while paramedic clambered into the wreckage to stabilize them. The critically injured patient was placed on a ventilator while still trapped in the vehicle but tragically, due to the extensive injuries that he sustained, he died at the scene.
The other patients were treated at the scene before medics transported them to a nearby hospital for the care that they required. (Chris Botha – Media Liaison Officer – Netcare 911).
