Vereeniging family buries sibblings killed in the incident
The funeral processions of Aamina Haffejee (16) and her little brother, Abdur Raheem Ebrahim Haffejee (7), left from 107 Ridge Road in Umhlanga before they were laid to rest in the Verulam Muslim Cemetery yesterday (December 28).
Aamina and Abdur were killed Wednesday evening when a massive boulder was thrown on their vehicle while traveling on the N2 between Ballito and Tongaat.
According to Allan Troskie, reporter at Ster’s sister Caxton newspaper The North Coast Courier in KZN, the Vereeniging family was on holiday when the tragedy happened.

According to Umhlali SAPS spokesperson captain Vinny Pillay, the family from Vereeniging were driving north on the N2 shortly before 9pm when a large rock was thrown at the car from a bridge between Tongaat and Ballito.
The rock smashed into their vehicle’s windshield, severely injuring the 16-year-old girl and her brother.
The driver of the vehicle (presumably their father), immediately rushed them to Netcare Alberlito Hospital in Ballito, however the siblings were pronounced dead on arrival.
Pillay said the motive for the attack was still unclear.
“We are appealing to the public for any information about this incident. If there were witnesses or if you have information about the perpetrators, contact Umhlali police station.”
He urged people to drive carefully and to report any suspicious activity on the roads.
Pillay said an inquest had been opened and when more was known about what happened the police would decide what charges to investigate.
