The communities of Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp have just fifteen days in which to object to the proposed merger between Ventersdorp and Tlokwe ahead of the 2016 local government elections.
D-Day is close of business on 31 July, after which all objections will be considered and the final decision will be published in the relevant Provincial Gazette.
Objections may be submitted to:
The Municipal Demarcation Board
Private Bag X 123,
CENTURION 0046
Fax: 086 524 8643
E-mail: fazel@demarcation.org.za
The reference number DEM 4517 must be quoted in any correspondence with the board.
According to circular 8/2015, the proposal is to amalgamate Tlokwe Local Municipality and Ventersdorp Local Municipality with the view to optimising the financial viability of the municipality.
The board has decided not to include part of the City of Matlosana to the amalgamated area.
“This proposal comes from the Municipal Demarcation Board and not Tlokwe City Council,” said mayoral spokesperson, Victor Boqo. According to him, the local government has nothing to do with the decision to amalgamate the two towns into a single municipality.
“People should direct all their objections and/or questions whether via email, fax or telephone, to the MDB and not to the city council,” he said.
