Veterans to be honoured with annual parade

Members of the public and families of deceased veterans are welcome to attend and to lay a wreath to honour their family members

VANDERBIJLPARK. – The Moths of Sandy Shellhole invite all Military and Police and other Service Veterans, and all those who served the country in the line of duty to attend an annual parade that honours the men and women who served South Africa.

The parade will be held on Sunday May 20th, at the Sylviavale Heritage Museum, Vaal Drive, Sylviavale, behind Ocumed Eye Clinic, starting at 10:30 for 11:00.

Residents from Parys, Vredefort, Sasolburg, Heilbron, Villiers, Heidelberg, Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, Meyerton, Henley on Klip, Walkerville, Carletonville and Fochville are requested to spread the news that the Moths are seeking to contact all veterans, especially World War II Veterans, and all of their families to invite them to attend the parade.

All surviving WW II Veterans are invited as special Guests of Honour to unveil the restored WW II Vickers 3.7 inch Heavy Anti-aircraft Gun, the 60 inch Sperry Searchlight of 800 Million Foot Candlelight power and the additional 40mm Bofors Anti-aircraft Gun on display at the Museum. All Veterans who served from the 1940’s to the late 1960’s may remember these heavy equipment units.

Members of all service organisations are encouraged to attend in their organisation’s parade dress uniform, with full size medals and decorations and unit headgear if possible.

“Members of the public and families of deceased veterans are very welcome to attend, and are most welcome to lay a wreath to honour their family members,” invite the organisers.

There will be curry and rice for sale afterwards, and the funds raised go towards worthy social causes.

There is a pub in the Shell hole where veterans and their families can relax and socialise. Everyone is welcome.

Veterans and other service organisations as well as private members of the public who are National Service Veterans are requested to please contact the Moth executive members of the Sandy Shellhole for further information:
