UPDATE ON BREAKING NEWS: Emfuleni vehichles repossessed

VANDERBIJLPARK. – After a message received by the media this morning about Emfuleni vehicles that was repossessed, mr Stanley Gaba, Manager for Communications of the Emfuleni Local Municipality replied this afternoon as follows:

“Emfuleni Local Municipality has noted reports with concern media reports that its vehicles were repossessed Wednesday the 15th August 2018. We would like to to inform the media and members, of the public that the fleet contract Emfuleni local Municipality had with a fleet provider ended after running its course, and has not been renewed.

The contract ended In March 2018, and the municipality has agreed to release the affected vehicles in batches back to the provider over a period of three months, starting in September 2018. For the record, the municipality paid the service provider R7 million on Wednesday, 15th August 2018.

The municipality had also discovered that the contract had been irregular and has since began a process to appoint a new fleet service provider. It must be noted that all municipality vehicles are currently in the possession of the municipality, and continue to work in attending to service delivery defects.

This means our service delivery teams are working as usual, however still faced with an existing shortage of vehicles. Consequently, this will continue to affect the turn around time for attending to service delivery defects, and we appeal for patience in this regard. The affected services include Electricity, Water and Sanitation, Waste Management and Traffic. The municipality wishes to apologize for any inconvenience caused.
