It is no secret that animal shelters feel the pinch of our struggling economy even more than other sectors. To understand the full extend of animal shelters’ challenges, read Lindie’s desperate plea for help in an earlier post. PLEASE help if you can. Lindie writes:

Heartbreak and soul searching when I get asked how I can Continue and deal with the overwhelming amount of dogs that are surrendered to our shelter! Shocking when you walk in here and see 800 dogs when you just adopted one….  even more shocking to know that not enough members of the community are aware of the crisis! Not everyone are interested nor aware of what happens to the puppies they gave to their friends or family members or gave free to a good home…  Shelters are bursting at their seams and we are one of them.  Standing on R26k (60 days in arrears) owing to Hi-Performance Feeds and R16 k owing to Enerdog – and that is just the accounts we owe, not mentioning day to day running costs like electricity and wages – we are forced to show dogs away to “kill shelters” due to a lack of funds, despite our loyal supporters that donate!
