SASOLBURG. – On September 5 the Sasolburg Radio Club invites one and all radio amateurs and technology enthusiasts to their 50 year celebrations by way of an Amateur Radio Festival. Organisations and interest groups are requested to contact the club at zs4srk@gmail.com in order to ensure a space at this radio festival. This festival aims to showcase the best amateur radio has to offer by means of all the facets involved in amateur radio. The club invites all groups such as the SARL, HAMNET, AWA, BACAR, SA AMSAT, RADAR, mobile operators, SARL youth, the RAE and new radio amateurs that have a ZU license and all “retired” and inactive radio amateurs to come to this festival. Clubs that want to set up their own club and branding are also invited. Please contact the organisers at zs4srk@gmail.com to ensure space for your club. The Sasolburg Radio Club would also like to invite all amateurs to bring and brag with their radio achievements, projects, homebrew projects and anything that will “wow” the crowd. There are prizes that could be won in various categories. The event will be held at Fakkel School in Sasolburg. The gates are open from early. Food and drinks will be available, and fires will burn from 11:00 for those that want to braai.
A minimal entrance fee of R20 may be applicable to visitors. Exhibitors must contact the club to assist with arrangements. For the amateur radio visitors a special QSL card will be issued. Exhibitors, clubs and organisations will receive a certificate of participation. A huge 500m long-wire HF loop antenna will be installed to attempt a “largest antenna” record. The club invites as many possible radio transmitter stations whether mobile, portable handheld or field stations, to operate on HF, VHF, UHF and microwave. At 13:00, they will announce the request to transmit at the exact same time for 3 minutes. This will be recorded on a wideband spectrum analyser to see how wide a range of RF may become active at the same time. More information about the day can be found on www.zs50srk.co.za.
