16 children injured after two taxis collide

VEREENIGIGNG. –  Sixteen children, believed to be aged between 4 and 7, were injured this morning following a collision between two taxis.The incident happened this morning at the Houtkop and Boy Louw intersection in Vereeniging.

ER24 medics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at 07h40 to find the two taxis in the middle of the road. The passengers had already climbed out of the one taxi and were found walking around on the scene.

Medics assessed the patients and found that sixteen children, aged between 4 and 7, had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were found on the scene.

The children were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to nearby provincial hospitals for further care. It is understood that the children were on their way to school when the collision occurred.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
