VEREENIGING. – The Staccatos was formed by Brian Le Gassick in 1961. They played many sessions and other gigs around Johannesburg and the Reef. Now 50 years later they are back!  The Staccatos Revival Show will take audiences on a trip down memory lane.
The cast moves with ease between genres taking a sentimental journey through decades and sharing with the audience the all-time favourites that touch the heart.
The band features the legendary founder, Brian Le Gassick (guitar & vocals) and the phenomenal Steve Ashley (a former lead vocalist of The Staccatos on vocals again) with a four piece supporting band consisting of keyboards, saxophone, drums, bass guitar and a lead guitarist.
In the latter part of 1963, a competition, which became known as the “Beatles Of South Africa”, was organised and The Staccatos won. Part of the prize was a recording contract with EMI.
Their first hit ‘Come back Silly Girl’ entered the charts on 17 December 1965 and reached the number two position on the Springbok Hit Parade. The song put the band on the map.
A few months later Billy Forrest took them into the studio and recorded ‘Cry to me’. The song went to #1 and spent 38 weeks on the chart during 1969.
After that many hightlights followed. The band
disbanded at the end of 1999.
They will be performing at the Vereeniging Barnyard on 17 Augustus. Doors open at 18:00, show starts at 20:00.
