SASOLBURG. – The popular Abrahamsrust resort on the banks of the Vaal River will soon be taken over by a new operator. The resort was temporarily closed to the public on 10 October. This measure was taken by the land owner, Sasol, subsequent to the expiry of the 20 year lease to the Metsimaholo Local Municipality on 30 September, and to ensure improvement on safety and health related measures at Abrahamsrust. Sasol has already initiated a commercial process to identify a new operator. However, the facility will be closed to the public, including season ticket holders, while extensive upgrade work is done by the new operator. “Sasol is undertaking this process to ensure that continuous public access to the Vaal River at Abrahamsrust is maintained, that all facilities are safe and contribute to making every visit to the resort optimally enjoyable. We therefore aim to avail a safe facility for recreation purposes for families and friends. Promoting a healthy life style remains important to Sasol,” explained Rightwell Laxa, Senior Vice President, Sasol’s Sasolburg Operations. “We regret the inconvenience caused by this temporary closure of the resort. Although every effort will be made to expedite the re-opening of the resort once all the upgrades have been completed. Sasol is currently not in a position to provide an exact date for the re-opening of the new improved Abrahamsrust. Sasol will, however, keep the public informed by periodically providing updates on the progress in local media. We trust that you, the community, will understand that we care about your and your family’s safety at our facilities,” Rightwell concluded
