WATCH: Shots fired during row over cheese topping at Joburg pizzeria

In the early hours of Sunday, an irate customer allegedly cocked his firearm in a popular Johannesburg pizzeria before firing two shots into the air as he drove off in a huff – all because there was no cheese on his focaccia.

Video footage of the incident shows the man arguing with several customers near the counter. Words are exchanged and before long he pulls a firearm from his waistband, cocking it in front of them.

According to Andiccio24’s marketing manager, Clara Namnick, the man was visibly aggravated when there was no cheese on his focaccia.

Our staff calmly explained that he had selected a focaccia base pizza on his order form which clearly indicated that it did not include any cheese,” Namnick told News24.

“He then became incredibly aggressive and verbally abusive towards our staff. As a result, the customers in the store came to their defence and they continued to argue with the customer directly.”

Namnick said the man then got into his car and fired two shots in the air as he drove away.

According to News24 the police were on the scene shortly after the incident to collect evidence and take statements from customers and staff.

“Andiccio24 does not tolerate any form of abuse, and will continue to work together with the authorities,” Namnick said. The pizzeria chain has since opened a case against the individual.

“At Andiccio24 our top priority is the well-being of our staff and customers, and staff have been offered counselling.”

The police were unable to confirm the incident at the time of publication.
