This was after the student went amok, and berserk burned the storage facilities at the residence. The incident happened in the early hours on February 4.
The students demanded that everyone to be registered irrespective of their circumstances. Other reason, they alleged that those who have failed, the Nationals Students Financial Aid Scheme, indicated that they would have to dig out of their own pockets to pay themselves for the subjects they failed.
At the main gate, the students were met with the entourage of police and security.
They indicated that they going to study and not to damage the properties.
The general secretary of the Students Representatives Council, Kevin Mawila had condemned the violent, vandalism and intimidation activities during the protest.
The SRC pledge solidarity to students outside the system and those denied residence.
Mawila confirmed that there was no building set alight. ‘We call the management to release all students arrested with immediate effects.’
However, Police spokesperson, Sergeant Gertrude Makhale, confirmed that a guard room was damaged by the students. At the time of going to print, Police said no students were arrested and no case was reported.
