ArcelorMittal Vanderbijlpark: Functionality to be restored within next 24 hours

During Friday afternoon at around 13:30 a pipe structure between two plants collapsed at ArcelorMittal South Africa’s Vanderbijlpark Works.

During the evacuation one employee injured his leg and received the necessary medical assistance and treatment.

“Our normal evacuation procedures were executed to ensure firstly the safety of our people at the site,” said Mr Werner Venter (General Manager ArcelorMittal Vanderbijlpark Works).
He explained that the piece of collapsed pipeline structure was isolated and that associated plants were brought to standstill with normal shutdown procedures.
“From an operational point, two of our plants are affected because of the incident, but the pipeline’s functionality will be restored within the next 24 hours to enable the effected plans to continue,” Venter concluded.
