CHW leaders released
Chabalala: “Upon my arrival I was informed by nursing staff that they are on strike. According to reports by staff members, the service provider to the clinic has failed to pay the community health workers who have as a result embarked on intimidating full time nursing staff employed by the clinic."

SEBOKENG. – Sedibeng Community Health Workers’ (CHW’s) chairperson Lebohang Molefe and Sedibeng Community Health Workers additional member Tshepiso Dingalo were detained by Evaton Police on Thursday on charges on malicious damage to state property and assault. This followed damages to the Zone 7 clinic recently.
On Monday the Provincial Community Health Workers and the region clouded Sebokeng Magistrates Court singing and chatting ‘Asoze saphel amandla’ (We won’t give up easily).Speaking to the press provincial spokesperson Mzwandile Msimanga says no ‘politics’ will kill their spirit. “Some of these members have been with the department for over 18 years. Today the department wants to thank us with a basket full of sh**.
“That won’t happen. We are going to start where we have ended. We are going to remove any community health workers assigned in our positions,” said Msimanga. “If they want to play dirty and include politics at our families’ expense; we will play dirtier. Going to jail is nothing. I will die for these health workers. We have been to this road for years and we cannot give up now,” said the just released Molefe.
Meanwhile the Democratic Alliance (DA) visited the community clinic in Zone 7, Sebokeng, to find out why the clinic has been closed. Kingsol Chabalala MPL and DA Emfuleni Mayoral Candidate says, “Upon my arrival I was informed by nursing staff that they are on strike. According to reports by staff members, the service provider to the clinic has failed to pay the community health workers who have as a result embarked on intimidating full time nursing staff employed by the clinic.
“Adding to the frustration of the full time nursing staff is the fact that community health workers have reportedly stolen patient files which has made it impossible to treat patients or run the clinic.
The community is ultimately suffering due to this illegal action taken against the clinic. “The clinic has not been open since the nurses were intimidated two weeks ago.
“I will be writing to Emfuleni MMC for Health and Social Development, Sello Pitso, to resolve this issue immediately and follow-up with this situation in 7 days.
“A DA-run Emfuleni will be honest and responsive, will stop corruption, provide better services, and work hard to create many more jobs and opportunities for all.
“Let us bring change that cuts corruption, delivers services and creates jobs.”
