State resources wasted in missing Mapule case

“I just want people to know that I am safe and that I’m not missing. I can’t get into details now but I am ok,” she said, adding that people must stop looking for her.

SEBOKENG. – Sebokeng Police Spokesperson Captain Teboho Lephoto has expressed disappointment at the waste of state resources after the family of “missing” Mapule Letsela (34) came forward with information stating that she was never missing.

“As police we condemn such actions as they result in a waste of time and resources that could have been used towards serious cases. A lot of effort and time was put into finding Mapule only to find out that her family knew where she was. We have to teach our communities that such things demoralise our men and women in blue as they work tirelessly to solve cases as serious as this one.”
Lephoto confirmed that the case had been closed. “As police we will continue to take each and every missing person’s case seriously but we ask that our people be genuine.”
The family made contact with Sedibeng Ster after seeing the article dubbed; “Please help find Mapule” in last week’s edition of the newspaper. A close relative of Letsela, who asked not to be named confirmed that Letsela was, in fact, in hiding and not missing.
Speaking to Letsela on Monday, she said that she could not divulge the details into why she had left her home but wanted to let people know that she is alive and well.
“I just want people to know that I am safe and that I’m not missing. I can’t get into details now but I am ok,” she said, adding that people must stop looking for her.
The Vaal last week united in prayer for the safe return of Letsela who had been reported missing. Posts about her went viral and were shared by hundreds of people who all hoped for her safe return.
Letsela’s husband, Thabo Letsela said that he would like to thank everyone who helped find Mapule. “I am relieved that this is finally over and that she is alive wherever she is.”
