More illegal houses and shacks erected at Waterdal

“Our appeal to the government was to be granted stands. We have monies and are not interested in RDP houses,” the invaders said.

SEBOKENG. – The animosity between shack dwellers and land owners in Waterdal reached boiling point recently. This is as conartists continue selling land to desperate people.

Communty members visited by Sedibeng Ster said they will never pay a cent to purchase the land but will just invade it.
As they looked for any open space to erect their shacks this brought discomfort to the agricultural holdings owners.
The community members have occupied land and built cement brick houses and the land owners are living in fear. The land owners said that since the illegal occupupation of the land they have lost cattle, goats, sheep and chickens, “We have run out of ideas.
“We do not know who to approach for help. Every weekend we see loads of trucks coming in,” they said.
When Sedibeng Ster arrived at the area last week, there were already more than ten houses with over fifty shacks erected. When they were asked about plans for the houses, the illegal owners said, that those will be seen later.
“We have been waiting for houses for years, we can not wait any longer.” There is also alleged illegal electricity connections and everyone is said to have started digging for water pipes to install in their yards.
“Our appeal to the government was to be granted stands. We have monies and are not interested in RDP houses,” the invaders said.
