Sad news: Woman and child killed in late night accident

Vehicle crashes into concrete pillar

A woman and child were killed last night (29 November 2017) and one other injured when a light motor vehicle crashed into a concrete pillar on the N4 Highway before the Mooinooi turnoff outside of Rustenburg.

Russel Meiring, spokesperson for ER24, reports that paramedics of this emergency service arrived on the scene at 22h40 and found that a light motor vehicle had split into two pieces and was found on the side of the road. The bodies of a woman, believed to be in her 30s, and a baby girl, believed to be a year old, was found lying approximately 30 metres away from the light motor vehicle. A third patient, a man, was found walking around on the scene.

Paramedics assessed the patients and found that the woman and child had sustained numerous fatal injuries. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were both declared dead on the scene.

The man was assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries. The man was treated for his injuries and was thereafter transported to Brits Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

Local authorities were on the scene to investigate the cause of the collision.
