SASOLBURG. – Project Serenity, sponsored by Vaal Toyota Sasolburg, feeds around 220 children each and every Friday at two schools in Zamdela.

The focus is on the high number of ‘child-headed households’. This is the last meal most of these children will eat for the entire weekend.

This is the fourth year that the project has run at the Tsatsi and Malakabeng Schools. Whilst feeding the children on Fridays, they noticed that these children’s shoes were in a horrid state, and that combined with the cold winter weather, their feet were cracked and painful. The Project Serenity team had to do something. The Rotary Club of Riverside in Vanderbijlpark came on board and, in no time, sponsored brand new ‘tekkies’ and shoes from Toms Shoes for each of these children.

Vaal Toyota Sasolburg also added socks for each child to go with their new shoes. The Rotary Club of Riverside did not stop there, either. They also donated a lot of educational toys that were donated to Child Welfare. These will be used by the children in their ‘aftercare programme’. Zarlene Hugo, founder of Project Serenity, thanks Vaal Toyota Sasolburg for its ongoing support in feeding these kids and then also gives a special word of thanks to Rotary Riverside for its very generous sponsoring of shoes to keep not only the children’s feet warm during the cold winter months, but also to keep their spirits up.
